Rainy Days and Cupcakes

I don't know why...but ever since I was a little girl, I have always enjoyed rainy days. Hearing rain in the morning, always makes me smile. I love that on rainy days we get to stay inside where it's warm and cozy. I love looking out the window to see street lamps on during the day. I also love that we can use them as an excuse to do things we don't do on other days! So on this rainy Tuesday...I made strawberry cupcakes that I decorated with LOTS of pink frosting and sprinkles (that I have been calling "crystals" all day long ;). I was so happy after I made these that I decided to take some photographs to share with the world! I hope you enjoy!

Romantic Evening at Sonnenberg Gardens...

Last Friday, Sonnenberg Gardens (in Canandaigua, NY) held its last "Moonlight Garden Tour" of the summer. My husband, Joshua, and I had never been there (even though it's only about 30 min. away!), so we decided to have a "date" night and check it out. We were both so happy that we did! It was by far one of the most romantic evenings I've ever experienced.

Moonlight Path

We arrived at Sonnenberg around 9 pm when the sun was just setting. It had rained all day but cleared up by the time we arrived...because of this, a beautiful mist formed over the fields and ponds that we walked through, which looked so beautiful under the moonlight. This was a self-guided tour, so the two of us were able to just walk around...holding hands...and basking in all the beauty that surrounded us.

The Garden Path

A live Big Band group was playing music from the Sonnenberg Mansion porch, which could be heard all throughout the gardens. We wandered around the paths and toured each of the gardens that were decorated with running fountains, coy fish ponds, Pergola's, statues, and sparkling white lights.

The garden tour ended when we arrived at the Tudor mansion, where couples danced to the music, wine and cheese tastings were offered, and tours were given of the old home. I absolutely love the Victorian touring the Mansion was the highlight of the evening for me. All of the rooms were decorated in the original Victorian-style with so many lovely touches. Victorian dresses were laid across ornate canopy beds, wicker chairs and tables decorated the sitting areas of the bedrooms, antique combs, brushes and perfume bottles were set atop the bathroom counters, old books and photographs filled the was truly as if we walked into another era. At every turn we ooohed and ahhhed at what we saw.

My favorite bathroom!

One bathroom in particular struck my had a lovely claw foot tub, double sink with ornate piping, toilet with the extra high tank, diamond shaped lead glass windows, embossed tiles covering the walls, and my favorite piece...a chippy pink medicine cabinet! It looked like something straight out of Romantic Homes magazine or a Rachel Ashwell book. I couldn't believe my eyes and just dreamed of somehow taking it all home with me! Alas, we could not of course...but we did take several photographs to show off! I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as we enjoyed taking them, and if you are ever in the Western, NY area be sure to make Sonnenberg Gardens a stop on your visit. You won't regret it!
