We're Moving!!!

It seems like such a long time coming! Even though we have only lived in our one-bedroom apartment for just over a year, it feels like so much longer. I currently use about 1/3 of the living room for my studio which makes for many a messy days! I am so excited that we are finally upgrading to a townhouse, down the road, with an extra bedroom and much more square footage. Now, my studio will actually be the master bedroom! Hopefully, the house will now be much tidier, and I will feel a whole lot saner (some of the time anyway!)
Even though the chore of moving can be quite a BIG PAIN...I am so excited to finally get going and have a whole new canvas for decorating. This, after all, is my first passion. I absolutely love deciding which paint colors and techniques to use for each room...and choosing which furniture and accessories will go where. I love expressing who I am and displaying what I love most with my surroundings. So much so, that even in the process of moving, I took a break today to photograph some decorating vignettes...strewn throughout this post. You can view more of these photos by visiting my Flickr page.
There is LOTS to do ahead for my husband and I...so for all of my new & returning customers, please take note that all orders processed after Oct. 28th (yesterday) will be delayed for a couple of weeks due to the move. Once we get settled, and get our computer and internet connection back up, things should start running smoothly. I look forward to the break...but also the return...as I will be introducing many new products...lots of lovely vintage finds...and a ***BRAND NEW*** WEBSITE DESIGN!!! I can't wait to reveal my latest creation and I look forward to your feedback!

Here is a sneak peak of the design to come:

Be back after the move!

Romantic Vignettes!!!

Often times my favorite features of cottage decorating are romantic vignettes filled with beautiful items. Personally, I love to decorate in vignettes in my home, and decided to take it one step further and share these beautiful "views" with the world!

We will frequently be featuring a new "Vignette of the Moment." These vignettes with come from a variety of sources including: our own home & work space, fellow designers homes, various boutiques, and from submissions by you!

"What is a vignette?," you may ask. The answer quite simply, is any decorative space/section set-up for the purpose of being pleasing to one's eye. Vignettes have always been a staple of elegant decorating, especially for romantic cottage lovers! It can be your mantel display for an upcoming holiday, a favorite collection set-up on an old bookshelf, an old pitcher filled with roses set upon linens and lace...it is simply a "view" that is filled with beautiful things you love!

We would LOVE for you, our visitors, to send in photographs of your favorite vignettes. If you have a gorgeous display that you would like to share with fellow cottage lovers, please email us your photographs, with a brief description. All photographs submitted, must be unedited, high resolution images. Three to five images (from a distance and close-up of the details) is ideal. We reserve the right to edit them as we see fit, but you will be credited in the write-up if your vignette is chosen. Feel free to send in as many vignettes as you would like for submission. The more the merrier!

To submit your vignette, contact Alice at alicew@fadedrosecottage.com with "Romantic Vignettes" in the subject line.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Our First Anniversary!

Mr. & Mrs. Joshua Wingerden Oct. 1st, 2006
Today, Joshua and I celebrated our one-year anniversary!!! I had no idea what it would feel like...a birthday? Christmas? Just any other day? And it turned out to be completely different than any of the above. It was simply...our day.
We both had usual days of working...him at his job, me on my website & graphic designs. We would call each other throughout the day trying to think of what we should do in the evening. Finally, it came to me. It has been such beautiful weather here (very unusual for Western New York!), so I thought it would be fun to do something outside.
We decided to have a picnic at a Mendon Ponds, a local park filled with ponds, trees, deer, and secluded areas perfect for a romantic picnic for two (plus their dog!).
I covered the picnic table with a beautiful table cloth and decorated it with candles, flowers, and vintage china...I can't resist going all out...even for picnics! All our food was purchased from Wegman's...so no I didn't make any of it...hehe...not one of my strengths! But we enjoyed blush wine, cheese, bread, grapes, chicken Caesar baguette sandwiches, pasta salad, and sweet n' spicy chicken wings. We even got Renoir a "gourmet" Filet Mignon meal to enjoy! We finished our evening off with delicious Old Fashioned chocolate chip cookies.
We came home and fell into our usual routine...watching TV on the couch and taking turns with the computer ;). It was a simple day. Just us. Just doing what we normally do. But it was beautiful. And I can't wait to have so many more!
